“Picture Yourself in History”
The St. Louis County Board of Commissioners invites you and your family to picture yourselves in history by participating in the County’s 150th anniversary celebration.
The year long series of events encourages St. Louis County residents to actively participate in becoming part of our local historical record.
The “History Train” brought history directly to communities throughout the County this summer as a fully renovated rail car carried a new exhibit about St. Louis County’s rich history. Brought to you by St. Louis County, the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, the St. Louis County Historical Society and its local affiliates, Canadian National Railway, SMDC, the Benedictines, Minnesota Power, and the Depot Foundation, this free exhibit delighted thousands. Click on the map link and see where the train went!
St. Louis County residents are invited to join the “Picture Yourself in History Time Capsule Project”, which celebrates the everyday lives of St. Louis County residents. The County will be collecting small items from residents that define their lives in northeastern Minnesota, throughout 2006. Two time capsules will be interred in Duluth and Virginia, Minnesota at the end of the Sesquicentennial year, to be opened in fifty years, in 2056.
County fairgoers in Chisholm and Proctor were able to "Picture Themselves in History" by posing as famous people in St. Louis County history.
The St. Louis County Historical Society and its affiliates and the Lake Superior Railroad Museum are also sponsoring historical events throughout the year in honor of the Sesquicentennial.
