Auditor's Service Center

Motor Vehicle/DNR Licenses

License Types:

Cars, trucks, motorcycles, trailers, snowmobiles, bicycles, boats, all terrain vehicles, off-road vehicles, RVs, snowmobile State trail stickers.

Services:

Title and register vehicles-new, used, and out of state; apply for duplicate titles or registration; apply for handicapped parking certificates; purchase or order special license plates (disability, personalized, collegiate, firefighter, critical habitat, limousine, van pool, ambulance, ARO/CB and various veteran's plates); report that a vehicle has been junked; report the sale of a vehicle when the buyer has not transferred the title.

All vehicle renewal payments can be deposited in a drop box on the front of the building at anytime and license tabs/plates/decals will be mailed by the following business day,

OR

All vehicle renewal payments can be deposited in a drop box on the front of the building at least an hour before the Service Center closes and license tabs/plates/decals can be picked up in an hour or by the end of the business day,

OR

All vehicle renewal payments can be mailed to the following address and orders will be returned in the mail on the following business day:

Any type of payment related to vehicle registration or titling can be made in the Service Center during regular business hours.

Possible required information:

Title, driver's license, license plate number, lien holder's name and address, odometer reading, engine number (motorcycles only).

Q:

I lost my decals for a recreational vehicle. How do I get a new one?

A:

Bring your registration number and driver's license to our office.

Q:

I didn't get a renewal card for my vehicle. What do I do?

A:

Come to our office and bring your driver's license, license plate number.

Q:

I applied for a title and have not received it yet. What do I do?

A:

Allow eight weeks for a title and two weeks for a duplicate title, then call our office.

Q:

How do I pro-rate a vehicle?

A:

Call one of the pro-rate offices in Grand Rapids (218) 326-4225 or St. Paul (651) 405-6161.

Q:

Do the buyer and seller have to be present to transfer ownership of a vehicle?

A:

To protect the interest of both parties, it is best that the buyer and seller be present to transfer the title.

Q:

If my title is in my name or someone else's do we both have to sign the title if the vehicle is sold?

A:

If all registered owners are alive, everyone must sign when transferring the title to a new owner.

Q.

What is a State snowmobile trail sticker and how much is it?

A.

A State snowmobile trail sticker is required for all persons operating a snowmobile on state or grant-in-aid trails. It is valid from November 1st - April 30th. An annual sticker is $16. A three-year sticker is available for $31 and must be purchased with a snowmobile renewal.
