The Environmental Services Department has approved 12 applications for funding from the 2008-2010 Recycling and Waste Reduction Grant program. Grants are available to local units of government within the North Service Area at the funding level of $2 per resident (see brochure for guidelines.)
Grants awarded to date include:
- City of Aurora - $3,700 for concrete recycling and reuse
- Balkan Twp/City of Chisholm - $11,542 for expansion of solid waste canister site and recycling services
- City of Eveleth - $3,181 for recycling dumpster purchase
- City of Virginia - $18,314 for new recycling truck
- Pike Towsnhip - $984 for concrete slab and other improvements to recycling drop-off site
Additional grants being processed include:
- City of Ely/City of Winton/Morse Township - $10,235 for new cardboard baler
- City of McKinley - $160 for illegal dump clean-up
- Great Scott Township - $846 to purchase and distribute reusable recycling totes
- Embarrass Township - $1,382 to clean up illegal dump on township land
- City of Gilbert - $3,694 for security equipment for recycling center
- City of Hibbing - $34,142 for recycling collection equipment
- Joint powers group consisting of City of Floodwood, City of Meadowlands, and Alborn, Culver Halden and Meadowlands Townships - $3,962 for curbside recycling through Floodwood Services and Training.
